olunteers in metro De-
troit's Jewish community
are "adopting" 40 resi-
dents of Borman Hall
nursing home to assist them in
their upcoming move to Menorah
House.
Sponsored by the Social Action
Committee Council, the pro-
gram aims to help these elderly
citizens adjust to their new home.
"The residents are going to feel
the support and it's going to do
everything for them," said Denise
Weinert, director of resident ser-
vices at Borman Hall.
Borman Hall, the Jewish
skilled nursing facility on Sev-
en Mile Road in Detroit, will
change ownership by December.
The Heartland Group, which
awaits state approval for pur-
chase of the property, will con-
tinue skilled nursing services
without Jewish programming or
kosher food.
Nearly half of Borman Hall's
94 remaining residents have cho-
sen to relocate to Menorah
House, the new, privately-owned
Jewish home on Greenfield Road
just south of Eleven Mile in
Southfield. Borman administra-
tors expect more residents to re-
locate by the end of the year.
Others will transfer to Prentis
Manor, Borman's sister facility
on Lahser Road in Southfield.
Menorah House (formerly
Mount Vernon Nursing Center)
was purchased earlier this year
by Medilodge owner Frank
Wronski, who promised to oper-
ate it as a Jewish institution with
the help of the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit.
Residents will begin moving in
two weeks, administrators hope.
Medilodge has prepared a mod-
V
el room for viewing and admin-
istrators there will provide tours
of the facility, which currently is
undergoing renovation.
The Social Action Committee
Council, a committee of the Jew-
ish Community Council, has
spearheaded the adopt-a-resident
program to ease the transition
between Borman and Menorah.
The program targets the 40 Bor-
