AJE Hosts Program
For Special Needs

The Agency for Jewish Education
will host "The Family Circle," an
annual program for family mem-
bers of Jewish people with spe-
cial needs, from 9:30 a.m. — noon,
Nov. 20 at the AJE building in
Southfield. This year's event,
"Creating Inclusive Jewish Com-
munities, will feature guest pre-
senters. Marsha Forest and
Judith Snow, inclusion innova-
tors and experts. Both have as-
sisted community leaders and
schools in opening new doors for
all students and members of the
community. They promote the
ideology that "together we're bet-
ter," and stress the importance of
building schools, agencies, and
communities that value diversi-
ty and foster interdependence.
During the program, Ms. For-
est and Ms. Snow will incorpo-
rate discussion, slides, stories and
videos to provide participants
with specific strategies utilized
to create and inclusive commu-
nity.
Programming for children and
young adults include workshops
for siblings of people with special
needs; the NCSY YACHAD pro-

gram tbr teens and young adults
with special needs who require
minimal supervision; fun and fit-
ness provided by the JCC's Bri-
an Clayton, Creative Cooperative
Games with Corinne Stavish, a
Chanukah Make and Take
Workshop and babysitting ser-
vices.
Ms. Forest and Ms. Snow also
will lead a special session on in-
clusion from 1-3 p.m.
The Family Circle program is
co-sponsored by Agency for Jew-
ish Education, Jewish Associa-
tion for Residential Care(JARC),
Jewish Experiences For Families
(J.E.F.F.) Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan Detroit,
Jewish Family Service, The Jew-
ish News, Jewish Information
and Referral Service, Kadima,
Keshet, Temple Beth El, Yachad
of National Conference of Syna-
gogue Youth (NCSY) and Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan De-
troit.
Family Circle was made pos-
sible by contributions from the
Women's Auxiliary of UHS and
Jewish Experiences For Fami-
lies. There is a charge.
