selves apart.
For how long, I wonder, will
parents continue to learn from
their children? Will this rebirth
take root, or will it eventually
fade as the realities and difficul-
ties of surviving in a struggling,
fledgling economy take prece-
dence?
I left Budapest with these
questions ringing in my head. In
retrospect, I believe that Judaism
will, in fact, flourish there. Some-
thing exists in the Jewish tradi-
tion that perseveres through
holocausts and oppressive polit-
ical regimes.
But Judaism will survive only
in this way: by free choice. And
the freedom to choose imposes
tremendous responsibility on
those who do the choosing.
My experience in Hungary left
me richer as a person and a Jew
— someone who, himself, will
have the responsibility of choos-
ing to be Jewish throughout life.
I am better able to appreciate my
own freedoms to think and act.

er Club, "Matmid," can now take
advantage of an exclusive offer:
any "Matmid" member who flies
roundtrip on El Al from the Unit-
ed States to Israel twice within a
12-month period can exchange
earned points for a free El Al
roundtrip ticket to London from
Newark.
With El Al's "Matmid" Fre-
quent Traveler program, mem-
bers earn free and discounted
tickets, as well as upgrades.
Points are allotted to members of
the "Matmid" Club for every
flight and vary according to des-
tination.
El Al is the only airline flying
to Israel that has no blackout
dates, allowing "Matmid" mem-
bers to use bonus tickets on any
El Al flight, any day of the week.
Also, El Al does not restrict the
number of seats on any flight to
passengers using bonus tickets.
Frequent travelers receive oth-
er privileges as well. Upon re-
quest all club members are
pre-seated 60 days or less prior
to their departure date. "Matmid"
members can use earned points
to upgrade purchased tickets
from Coach to Business Class
and from full fare Business to
First Class.
Additionally, frequent travel-
ers can purchase up to half the
points needed to obtain a free or
reduced fare ticket.
