Insti- tutions, including Federation, temples and synagogues, are go- ing out of their way to plan events because "they see a need," she says. Young adults who have lived in other cities — like At- lanta, Chicago and New York — are returning to Detroit (to be with family, mainly) and bring- ing with them fresh ideas. Outside of organized activities, many young people spearhead their own, private functions. Small groups of young adults host Shabbat dinners, travel to- gether up north or attend nights of Israeli dancing at the Maple- Drake JCC. More or less, these are simply groups of friends gathering to have a good time. No pressure. To singles in Detroit, Ms. Adler extends a call for calm. `The more pressure you put on yourself, the harder it'll be. You almost have to take the more laid-back approach," she says. "Just don't worry about it and know that you are a great per- son.
