Jules Masserman

Dr. Jules Masserman, 89, died
Nov. 6 in Chicago. Dr. Masser-
man was born in Russia, grew
up in Detroit and has been a
resident of Chicago since 1935.
Since his retirement from prac-
tice in 1987 as president of the
Masserman Foundation for In-
ternational Accords, Dr.
Masserman devoted his efforts
to coordinating and supporting
the activities of distinguished
colleagues and friends through-
out the world in programs de-
signed to promote internation-
al peace and advance human
welfare. Dr. Masserman was
trained in history, literature, bi-
ology, music and medicine at
Wayne State University, in
neurology at Stanford Univer-
sity, in psychiatry at Johns
Hopkins and in psychoanalysis
at the Chicago Institute. Among
his academic honors, Dr.
Masserman received the
Wayne State University Med-
ical Alumni Association Distin-
guished Service Citation, the
Sigmund Freud Award in Psy-
choanalysis, and the Albert
Lasker Award for Outstanding
Contributions to the Advance-
ment of Mental Health.
His other honors included the

LEONID BEZDETNY, 76, of
Southfield, died Nov. 1. He is sur-
vived by his wife, Sarra Goland;
sons and daughter-in-law, Ed-
ward and Delshad of Royal Oak,
Semyon of Southfield. Contribu-
tions to a charity of choice would

KENNETH BRONSON, 60, of
Ann Arbor, died Nov. 5. He re-
ceived his juris doctorate from
Wayne State University in 1958.
In 1959, he received his master
of law and letters from the Uni-
versity of Michigan. In 1983, he
did post graduate work at Cam-
bridge University in England. He
was an instructor at the U of M,
an attorney for Bonisteel & Bon-
isteel, litigation counsel for East-
ern Michigan University, city at-
torney for the city of Ypsilanti,
senior partner of Bronson & Eg-
nor in Ypsilanti. He also was jus-
tice of the peace in Saline, judge
of 14A District Court of Wash-
tenaw County and chief judge
from 1985 until the present. He
contributed articles to several
professional journals. He was a
founding member of Temple Beth
Emeth, Ann Arbor. He was the
recipient of distinguished service
awards from Saline, Dexter,
Chelsea and received the Blair
Moody Award from the Michigan
Trial Lawyers Association. He

AUBREY CAPLAN, 78, of
Deerfield Beach, Fla., and De-
troit, died Nov. 3. He was for-

where he was employed for over

B'nai B'rith. He is survived by his
wife, Dorothy; brother and sister-
in-law, Irving and Doody of Del-

GERTRUDE FREEMAN, 82,
of Southfield, died Nov. 6. She
was the beloved wife of the late
Ronald Freeman. She is survived

West Bloomfield; sister and
brother-in-law, Elizabeth and
