Empire Kosher Turkey

An entrees include sauteed
fresh vegetables, potatoes, house
salad and bread basket.
Butchering of meats and fish-
es are done directly by MacKin-
non's, which also makes its own
breads, four different sauces each
day, its own mustards, relishes,
pestos, chutney and sometimes
its own catsup (mushroom cat-
sup, walnut catsup, hazelnut cat-
sup, onion catsup, etc.) ...
Everything at MacKinnon's is
made from scratch ... nothing
pre-made.
Tom's 15-year-old son, Ian, is
in the kitchen preparing appe-
tizers, desserts and salads, along-
side five chefs on duty at all
times.
Tom is his own executive chef,

like much, but the quick taking
away of "dirty" dishes is yet an-
other sign of a fine restaurant.
Belgian waterzooi, considered
by many of those who know of it
to be the "chateaubriand of
seafoods," is presented and
served tableside at MacKinnon's
... It is a dining extravaganza
with lobster tail, salmon, scallops,
shrimp, mussels, oysters, lobster
sauce and covered with a puff
pastry, $34.95 per person.
Tom makes his own ice carv-
ings ... and does a big job on out-
side catering.
Even kosher catering is avail-
able if the preparation is with
rabbinical supervision on
kashruth-supervised premises ...
Rodney Shram, son of Beckie and
Ronald Shram, is not only a
server at MacKinnon's, but also
chef for its out-of-restaurant
kosher events, including out-of-
town ... He is a graduate of the
Schoolcraft College culinary pro-
gram and one of three waitper-
sons at MacKinnon's who can
also double in the kitchen if
