Elsa Silverman has been ap-
pointed director of Sinai Hospi-
tal's volunteer services
department. Ms. Silverman has
been a Sinai employee for 16
years and most recently served
as supervisor for the Sinai Guild
and volunteer services.
She is a member of the Michi-
gan Council for Directors of Vol-
unteer Services and the
Metropolitan Detroit Volunteer
Advisory Network. Her commu-
nity involvement includes work
on many projects, including the
B'nai B'rith Professional
Women's Network, the B'nai
B'rith Women's Domestic Vio-
lence Project and the Michigan
Association for Children with
Learning Disabilities.

Dr. Lawrence Baitch

professor of ophthalmology at the
University of Maryland School of
Medicine.
His professional affiliations in-
clude the Optical Society of
America, the Association of Op-
tometric Educators and others.

Dr. Sanford Sklar has been ap-
pointed director of critical care at
Botsford General Hospital. Dr.
Sklar formerly was director of the
intensive care unit and respira-
tory services at the Michigan
Health Care Center in Detroit.

Dr. Mark Dworkin, formerly of
Farmington Hills, has been as-
signed by the Atlanta Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention to
spend two years working as an Epi-
demic Intelligence Service fellow
at the Washington State Depart-
ment of Health in the office of com-
municable disease epidemiology.
Dr. Dworkin has focused on
salmonella, botulism, the Hanta
virus and other areas of infec-
tious disease. He received his
medical degree from Rush Uni-
versity in Chicago and complet-
ed a fellowship in infectious
diseases at Tulane University
where he also received his mas-
ter's in public health.

Dr. Allen Stawis

Dr. Allen Stawis recently joined
the staff of Providence Hospital.
Board certified in hematology
and medical oncology, Dr. Staw-
