Last week's benefit raised
$18,500, though another $2,000
in pledges are expected.
"God willing, we'll hit $20,000
or a little more so we'll have
enough to take care of one child
for one year," Ms. Sharfman said.
"It's a rescue mission. The longer
they stay (in the Ukraine), the
more danger there is of them be-
coming ill. We have to get them
out."

It may not be made of go
but wearing it will make you
feel priceless.

Rae Shartman

Ms. Sharfman received
thanks for forming the group's
metro Detroit chapter. Co-
founder Judy Granader pre-
sented Ms. Sharfman with a
plaque and said she exemplified
the answer to the question posed
by the late Lubavitcher Rebbe
Menachem Schneerson: "Who is
watching the children?"

Protest Made
At Film Fest

‘:11 -

Montreal (JTA) — The Israeli
Consulate here recently sent a
letter of protest to the director of
the Montreal World Film Festi-
val, which used the term "Pales-
tine" to describe the country of
origin of a Palestinian-Dutch pro-
duction shown at the festival.
The festival, which ended last
month, featured the film Curfew,
which depicts life in the Gaza
Strip for a Palestinian family.
The film has garnered three
awards since its release, includ-
ing a UNESCO prize at the
Cannes Film Festival, whose or-
ganizers apparently also listed
Palestine as the film's country of
origin.
After unsuccessfully attempt-
ing to contact festival director
Serge Losique by phone for sev-
eral weeks, Israeli Consul Aviva
Raz sent a formal letter on Sept.
9, but she has received no re-
sponse.
Ms. Raz asked that the term
not be used again.
