Five other defendants in the case, all of whom were minors, were found guilty of disturbing the peace and received suspend- ed sentences or monetary fines. Two of the eight defendants were acquitted. On the night of July 23, a group of 22 skinheads broke into the site of the former Buchenwald concentration camp, chanting Nazi slogans such as "Heil Hitler" and "Sieg Heil" and smashing windows of former barrack sites at the camp. The group also threatened to set on fire a worker there who at- tempted to stop them. All but one of the defendants denied the charges against them. One youth who confessed to hav- ing threatened to bum the camp worker had sent the worker a let- ter apologizing for the incident. The vandalism at Buchenwald provoked protests from around the world as well as in Germany itself, where Chancellor Helmut Kohl called for severe punish- ments for the defendants. Fourteen more skinheads are scheduled to come before the court to stand trial on similar charges. Dutch Police Arrest Israelis Amsterdam (JTA) — Cooperat- ing with an Israeli effort to crack down on Israeli drug traffickers around the world, Dutch police recently arrested three Israelis who allegedly operated a labora- tory for the production of a drug known as Ecstasy. Police discovered the labora- tory, located in the town of Wormerveer, some 19 miles north of Amsterdam, after neigh- bors complained about the smell of ammonia escaping from the building. The three Israelis, one of whom is a chemical engineer, ar- rived in Holland in August. When renting the building in Wormerveer, they had claimed they were going to use the build- ing for the storage of bakery prod- ucts. Reflecting what was appar- ently an international effort to break up the Ecstasy production and distribution ring, police in Antwerp, Belgium, arrested a fourth suspect, and in Israel nine additional people were arrested.
