ill Clinton breezed into
town earlier this week to
make a campaign plug for
Democrat Bob Carr.
While U.S. Rep. Sander Levin
was on hand for the event, just as
he was the last time the president
came to town to lobby for fellow
party members, there is no cam-
paign bond between the president
and Rep. Levin.
"It's not a matter of not want-
ing the president's help. Sandy
doesn't need his help," said Erik
Barnett, Rep. Levin's press sec-:
retary. "We're not running away
from the president. We've also
never been asked if Sandy want-
ed his help."

Natural Law candidate Eric
Anderson, who is registered with
a campaign address in Iowa, and
Independent Jerome White are
also running.
These four candidates, along
with the five running for U.S.
Senate and the three running for
Congress in the 11th District, are
hoping Oakland and Macomb
County voters will send them to
Washington as members of the
104th Congress.
Polls indicate the U.S. Senate
candidates, Democrat Bob Carr
and Republican Spencer Abra-
ham, are in a neck-and-neck race.
Last Sunday's debate between
the two failed to add any sparks

cates on behalf of the poor and
working people's rights. Mr.
Roundtree and his party support
ideas like instituting a $10 min-
imum wage, lifting the blockades
against Cuba and Iraq and offer-
ing free contraceptives and health
care for youth.
Mr. Wege's Natural Law Par-
ty advocates using scientific cri-
teria to establish and review
governmental programs. The par-
ty suggests the use of transcen-
dental meditation to cut crime,
reduce stress, improve health and
education and strengthen fami-
lies.
Mr. Wege and his party believe
U.S. foreign policy should shift

to either side.
Libertarian John
Coon, who has been
campaigning for the
Senate job for over a
year, is hoping to ig-
nite voter interest and
run a successful third-
party campaign. Mr.
Coon talks of balanc-
ing the budget with-
out raising taxes and he supports
legislation that decreases the size
of the federal government.

But if Rep. Levin's election re-
sults from two years ago — when
he ran against John Pappageorge
for the first time — are any indi-
cation, the six-term congressman
may need someone's help.
In 1992, when Rep. Levin first
ran in the newly drawn 12th Dis-
trict, he beat Mr. Pappageorge by
a 7 percent margin, spending just
over $1 million. The same elec-
tion cost Mr. Pappageorge
— Erik Barnett
$190,000.
Two years later, voters are
looking at a Levin/Pappageorge
