I L E CI I3 CHERI FARBER, a freshman swimmer at North Farmington High School, has made the Class A state meet cut in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 medley relay. The state meet will be held Nov. 18-19 at Michigan State University. A graduate of Hillel Day School, Farber swims year- round for the Birmingham- Bloomfield Atlantis club. STACEY AXNER and her sister Melissa Axner led the West Bloomfield High School girls swimming team to a 98-88 victory over Bloomfield Hills Lahser on Oct. 13. At the time, Lahser was ranked No. 7 in Class A. Stacey won the 200 and 500 freestyle in 2:07.73 and 5:29.64. Melissa captured the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in 25.38 and 55.24. In a 126-59 West Bloomfield win over Ferndale on Oct. 18, Melissa won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly in 2:00.64 and 1:04.82. MICAH HEILBRUN of Birm- ingham Groves, one of the top rushers in Oakland County, will put the finishing touches on his high school football career today when Groves meets Birming- ham Seaholm at 6:30 p.m. at the Pontiac Silverdome. Heilbrun has gained more S 1- a V a a -I- a I NI than 700 yards and scored nine touchdowns in eight games this season. Groves is 5-3 and the Oak- land Activities Association Di- vision IV champion. Seaholm, also 5-3, finished in second place in Division II of the OAA. HANNAH FISCHMAN of Bloomfield Hills Andover High School finished second at No. 3 singles in the Class B girls ten- nis regional held Oct. 14 at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood. Melanie Tilchen and Jordan Winokur of Andover were the runners-up at No. 2 doubles. Andover finished second in the team standings and quali- fied for the state meet. The Barons tied for eighth place in the state competition, held Oct. 21-22 in Ypsilanti. AMER. TAL, a freshman goalie on the Oakland University soc- cer team from Israel, saw his seven-game scoreless streak end at 511 minutes when Greg So- bierag of Lewis put a goal behind him. The score came in the 59th minute of play in an Oct. 22 game in Romeoville, Ill., and tied the contest at 1-1.
