On Nov. 5, during Shabbat ser-
vices, Congregation Beth Achim
will observe the anniversary of
Kristallnacht. Professor Guy
Stern, professor of German and
Slavic Studies at Wayne State
University, will be the guest
speaker. His topic will be "The
Night of Broken Glass In Litera-
ture."
Professor Stern is the author
of five books. He also has taught
at Columbia University , the Uni-
versity of Cincinnati, Denison
University and the Goethe Insti-
tute.
There will be a kiddush im-
mediately following services. At
that time the congregation will
be able to meet Professor Stern.

On Oct. 29, the Young Israel of
Greenfield will host a scholar in
residence Shabbat sponsored by
Mr. Alex Saltsman in memory of
his wife T,illian. The guest will be
Rabbi Howard Landau, rebbe
and special events coordinator of
the YULA High Schools.
Rabbi Landau also will ad-
dress a shiur at 5 p.m. on "Lo

Kugel chefs are invited to partic-
ipate in the "Kosher Kugel Kook-
Off' on Nov. 13 from 14 p.m. at
the Jimmy Prentis Morris Jew-
ish Community Center.
The competition for the best
kugel entry is part of the 4th an-
nual Kosher Food Fair sponsored
by the Neighborhood Project.
All kugel entries must be made
with only kosher ingredients. The
Greenfield Noodle Company has
donated the noodles for the com-
petition, and they may be picked
up at the JPM-Center during
working hours. Interested par-
ticipants for the kugel competi-
tion must register with the
Neighborhood Project by Nov. 7.
All registered entries must be
submitted to the JPM-JCC for
judging by noon Nov. 13.
Cheryl Chodun of WXYZ
Channel 7, Danny Raskin of The
Jewish News and Annabelle Co-
hen from Annabelle's Catering
will taste and decide the winning
kugel entry.
Prizes will be awarded the day
of the event. There is a charge of
dile kosher food item to Yad Ezra,
the community's kosher food
pantry, to enter the fair.
The Center is a co-sponsor;
Sinai Hospital, Manischewitz and
Franklin Bank are corporate
sponsors of the fair.
The Neighborhood Project,
which is sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan De-
troit, seeks to enhance the vital-
ity and growth of the
neighborhoods of Oak Park and
Southfield.

items is noon Thursday,
eight days prior to issue
date. The deadline for birth
announcements is 10 a.m.
Monday, four days prior to
issue date; out-of-town obit-
uaries, 10 a.m. Tuesday,
three days prior to issue
date.
