JOSEPH FRENKEL, 94, of
West Bloomfield, died Oct. 22.
Mr. Frenkel, a philanthropist
and early industrialist, born in
Russia where he distinguished
himself as a math whiz; he em-
igrated to the United States as
a teen-ager. He started work as
a peddler and founded the
Joseph Frenkel Company, a
pharmaceutical and health and
beauty aid distributor. He be-
gan the Advance Glove Corn-
pany employing some 900 work-
ers in seven states; for many
years he was an integral part of
supplying the World War II war
effort, the auto industry and
other industries with work
gloves and safety equipment.
He was a 33rd Degree Mason
and a Shriner. He served on the
board of trustees of Congrega-
tion Shanrey Zedek, was a fer-
vent supporter of the Jewish
National Fund, B'nai B'rith,
American Jewish Congress, Fa-
ther Flanagan's Boys Town, the
Jewish Welfare Federation, var-
ious hospitals and Israel Bonds.
Mr. Frenkel was the beloved
husband of the late Rose. He is
survived by his son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Marvin and Barbara
of Huntington Woods; daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Sheila F.
and William Ellmann of Farm-
ington Hills; grandchildren,
Douglas and Claudia, Carol and
Robert Ellmann, Dale and Pat-
ty, Ronald and Paula and Tom
Grenkel, Cindy and Dan Kan-
ter; eight great-grandchildren.
Interment at Macheplah Ceme-
tery. Arrangements by the Ira

FAYE PASSERMAN, 77, of
Oak Park, died Oct. 23. Mrs.
Passerman was founding pres-
ident of a B'nai B'rith Chapter
(Huntington Woods), a member
of the Eastern Star and Con-
gregation Beth Shalom. She
was the co-owner and co-past
president and secretary of Lin-
coln Drugs in Oak Park. She is
survived by her husband,
Julius; son and daughter-in-
law, Allan and Linda of Farm-
ington Hills; daughter, Judith
L. Parsons of Ann Arbor; broth-
ers, Leon Fertell of Livonia,
Manny Fertell of Los Angeles;
sister, Mildred Rosenblum of
Troy; grandchildren, Melissa
and James Wren, David and
Lisa Parsons, Brian, Mark and
Daniel Passerman; great-
grandson.
FREIDA SCHNEIDER, 79, of
Southfield, died Oct. 20. Mrs.
Schneider was active in Hadas-
sah, B'nai B'rith. She was a past
member of the sisterhood of
Beth Aaron. She was the
beloved wife of the late Samuel;
the devotdd mother of the
late Shirley Schneider; the lov-
ing sister of the late Joseph
Sweet. She is survived by her
