A former president of the Jew-
ish Community Council, Judge
Shepherd retains a role with the
organization.
"He has been one of the more
active past presidents, and some-
one I turn to for advice," said
David Gad-Harf, JCCouncil ex-
ecutive director. "He was on the
committee that recruited me, so
I have a place in my heart for
John Shepherd."
Mr. Gad-Harf said Judge
Shepherd in turn was recruited
for several special projects by the
Council, including analyzing the
constitutional issues surround-
ing the case of convicted spy
Jonathan Pollard.
Close friend Richard Loben-
thal, Michigan regional director
of the Anti-Defamation League,
said Judge Shepherd was care-
ful about outside involvements
while serving on the court.
