ALMOND CRUNCH
MACARONI CUSTARD

Custard:

1 c. milk
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. flour
114 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 t. almond extract
1/2 c. uncooked macaroni, cooked
and drained
Almond Topping:
1/2 c. slivered almonds
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
2 T. butter, softened
1 T. milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all custard ingredients
except macaroni in a blender or
food processor. Blend for 2 min-
utes. Pour milk mixture into a
bowl and fold in the macaroni.
Spoon into a greased and floured
8-inch pan. Bake 40 to 45 min-
utes or until set. Mix together all
topping ingredients and spread
over custard. Broil 2 to 3 minutes
until topping is bubbly and gold-
en brown.

A "Kosher Kugel Kook-Off' will
be held at the Kosher Food Fair
1-4 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Jewish Commu-
nity Center.
Information and rules for the
"kook-off' can be obtained by call-
ing the Neighborhood Project,
967-1112.
The fair will also feature
kosher food retailers and cater-
ers, who will be exhibiting their
products and foods, and coking
demonstrations.

Woven cloth is familiar and com-
mon to all because it evokes pow-
erful feelings of protection,
warmth, security and sensuali-
ty. Three artists in the textiles
show at the Wetsman Collection,
Lia Cook, Arturo Alonzo San-
doval and Cynthia Schira, are all
intrigued by the power of cloth as
both symbol and as substance.
Lia Cook addresses what she
sees as the current devaluation
of fabric in our culture. Cynthia
Schira's weavings are created
through a highly technical knowl-
edge of complex weave structures
and methods. Arturo Alonzo San-
doval chooses mainly to investi-
gate 20th century industrial
materials.
The show will run through
Nov. 19. The gallery is located at
132 North Woodward; hours are
11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday through
Saturday.
