enry Ford Hospital's de-
partment of neurosurgery
and the Detroit Pistons
teamed up last Friday to
"Shoot For A Cure."
The second annual benefit
took place Oct. 14 during the Pis-
ton's first pre-season home game
against the New Jersey Nets at
the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Shoot For A Cure, which hon-
ored Detroit Mayor Dennis
Archer and featured live and
silent auctions, raised $55,000
to benefit the Henry Ford Hos-
pital Will Robinson Neuro
surgery Fund.
Dr. Mark and PPlii Rosen-
blum chaired the event. Dr.
Rosenblum is the chairman of
neurosurgery at Henry Ford.
"The evening demonstrates
hope for the future. The teams
are on their way up — the Pis-
tons and Henry Ford," he said.
"We're all going to win."
Will Robinson, assistant to the
vice president of basketball op-
erations for the Pistons, was the
first black man to coach an
NCAA team. Last year, Mr.
Robinson was successfully treat-

ed for a brain tumor at Henry
Ford Hospital. He subsequently
started the neurosurgery fund
to support research and treat-
ment of brain tumors, stroke,
epilepsy, head injury and spinal
disorders.

"The teams are on
their way up."

The first annual Shoot For A
Cure, held a year ago, raised
more than $25,000. This year,
215 tickets were sold to physi-
cians, patients, businesspeople
and other benefactors. All suites
in the Palace were donated for
the evening's game.
Students from the Detroit
High School of Business Ad-
ministration and Commerce
were also treated to a night of
professional hoops. And the Pis-
tons won: 123 to 117. ❑
