A

former University of
Michigan wrestler, an ex-
Wayne State University
football and track stand-
out and a handball wizard who
has overcome cancer are the
three 1994 inductees into the
Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame.
The hall doors will swing open
for James Kamman, Robert Luby
and David Rott at the 10th an-
nual induction banquet. The fes-
tivities will begin at 6 p.m. Nov.
7 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
in Southfield.
Kamman won two Big Ten
wrestling championships and a
national title during the late
1960s. He continued wrestling in
the Marine Corps, winning sev-
eral Marine and interservice coin
petitions.
Following active duty in Viet-
nam, Kamman was awarded the

decades. He is convinced the
physical conditioning he's need-
ed to be a successful handball
player has contributed to his abil-
ity to win his bouts with cancer.
A past president of the Michi-
gan Handball Association and
one of the most enthusiastic back-
ers of the sport in the state, Rott
has coached many handball play-
ers through the years.
Rott and his wife own and op-
erate an office supply business in
Southfield.

fa Tables for the Hat of Fame

Distinguished Flying Cross and
other honors. Today, he practices
tax law in California.
Luby was a two-sport stand-
out at Wayne State during the
1930s. He scored three touch-
downs in a 65-0 rout of Hillsdale
which remains the Tartars'
largest margin of victory and he
set a school record in the 440-
yard dash which beat the former
mark held by U.S. Olympian
John Lewis.
Following a 40-year career as
a teacher, principal and athletic
director in Detroit, Luby now is
director for development at the
Interlochen Center for the Arts
near Traverse City. He divides
his time between_Detsoit and
Traverse City.
Rott has placed first or second
in more than 70 regional, na-
tional and international handball
tournaments over the past 3 1/2
