Stepping Stones
Program Set

Families enrolled in Stepping
Stones to a Jewish Me are invited
to "Discover the Synagogue," Oct.
16 from 1:30-3:15 p.m. at Temple
Israel.
Administered by the Agency
for Jewish Education from the
Max M. Fisher Jewish Commu-
nity Foundation, Stepping Stones
offers children of interfaith un-
affiliated families opportunities
to learn more about their Jewish
heritage. The Sunday program is
a culmination of a unit on syna-
gogue and symbols which in-
cluded games and activities that
demonstrated the role and mean-
ing of synagogue and symbols in
Jewish life. Children and their
parents will participate in a trea-
sure hunt and arts and crafts ac-
tivities while discovering the
beauty of the synagogue.

Oneg Shabbat
Speaker Set

The Sholem Aleichem Institute
will hold its first Oneg Shabbat
of the new year Oct. 14 at 8:30
p.m. at the Franklin Pointe club-
house.
Dr. Bernard Klein will speak
on "Recent Developments in
Eastern Europe with Special Em-
phasis on Romania." Dr. Klein, a
member of the faculty at the Uni-
versity of Michigan-Dearborn,
recently returned from one year
in Romania where he was on a
Fulbright Fellowship.
