The Ethnic Connection Calendar Cabaret Evening Features Klezmers Sunday, October 16 The Jewish Community Cen- ter's Jimmy Prentis Morris Building is celebrating the first anniversary of the newly ren- ovated building. 1-3:30 p.m. The Adult Study Commission of Adat Shalom Synagogue will present a Klezmer Cabaret Evening featuring "The Ethnic Connection" Oct. 23. Jewish Law Seminar Planned At Midrasha The Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish Learning and the Cohn Haddow Center for Judaic Studies of Wayne State University will co-sponsor a 10-week semi- nar for adult learners titled "Challenge and Response: An Introduction to Jew- ish Law," taught by Midrasha Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Rod Glowgower. The series will begin Oct. 18 at Midrasha, at two times each week: Tuesday afternoons from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and Tuesday evenings from 8 to 9:30 p.m. There is a tuition fee. All study materials are in English, and no knowledge of He- brew is required. Rabbi Glowgower is rabbi of the Orthodox Hillel Minyan at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and adjunct lecturer at the U-M Law School. Wednesday, October 19 Rod Glogower Professor Explores Support Of Hitler Attempts by some Christian theologians in the 1930s to deny Jesus' Jewish identity will be among the issues explored by professor and author Susannah Heschel in an 11:15 a.m. lecture at Wayne State University's McGregor Memo- rial Conference Oct. 17. Her presentation is titled "Christian Theologians in support of Hitler: A Moral Evaluation." Ms. Herschel, Abba Hillel Silver associate professor of Judaic studies at Case Western Reserve University, has done extensive research on the relationship between Jewish and Christian scholars in Germany during the 19th and early 20th centuries. In her discussion, she will evaluate the anti-Semitism of some the- ologians and explore the attitudes of Christian theologians during the Third Reich. Ms. Heschel holds a doctorate in Judaic Studies from the University of Penn- sylvania, a master's degree in theology from Harvard Divinity School and a bachelor's degree from Trinity College. During 1992-93, she was a visiting pro- fessor in the faculty of theology at the University of Frankfort. Joining the discussion following Ms. Heschel's speech will be William Rior- dan, assistant professor of systematic theology at Sacred Heart Major Semi- nary, and Guy Stern, distinguished professor of German and Slavic studies at WSU.
