Ramat Beka
Is Eliminated
The Israel Free Export Zones
Council eliminated the Ramat
Beka area as a prospective loca-
tion for the Free Export Pro-
cessing Zone (FEPZ) because it
is not appropriate for clean in-
dustries, the Treasury an-
nounced.
Finance Minister Avraham
Shohat asked at the council's meet-
ing that the FEPZ be located as
close as possible to Beersheba.
Under FEPZ law, the zone
may be located in a development
area either in the Negev or the
Galilee. The council is consider-
ing three possible sites near
Beersheba — Lehavim, Likit and
Tel Shoket.
Service Network
Is Set Up
Elron of Israel has announced
a strategic partnership with New
York-based Advanced Network
Systems (ANS) for the develop-
ment of an ElroNet wide-band
international service network.
Abe Peled, Elron vice presi-
dent for business development,
said the agreement allows Elron
to market ANS services to Israeli
firms with offices in the United
States.
ANS will market similar ser-
vices to American firms wishing
to do business in Israel. There
are currently some 200 compa-
nies in this group, of which 60
are traded in New York.
