Violinist Plays
Concert Series

mple Israel's first concert in the
Schmier Chapel Chamber Series will
take place oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and will
feature violinist Mark Komissarov in a pro-
gram titled "From Russia With Love." Ac-
companying Mr. Komissarov will be his
wife, Margarita Molchadskaya.
With degrees in violin performance and
teaching from the Leningrad State Con-
servatory, Mr. Komissarov has performed
with world-known conductors as well as
appearing as solo violinist with the
Leningrad State Philharmonic.

enry and Mala Dorfman will
receive the Holocaust Memo-
rial Center's first Legacy
Award for exemplary leadership and
life-long philanthropy at the HMC's
10th Anniversary Dinner Oct. 9 at
5:30 p.m. at the Westin Hotel in De-
troit's Renaissance Center.
The Dorfmans have been un-
stinting supporters of the HMC and
its educational outreach programs.
Both Holocaust survivors and
members of Shaarit Haplaytah
("the Remnant"), they were instru-
mental in stimulating community
interest in creating America's first
Holocaust center. Henry Doi finan
began raising funds for the Holo-
caust center in 1979, when he be-
came chairman of the capital and
endowment fund committee of the
future museum.
Mr. Dorfman served as chairman
of the executive committee of the
HMC board of directors. In 1994 he
became HMC president. The
Mala and Henry Dorfman
HMC's Hall of Culture is dedicat-
ed by the couple and their children.
Henry Dorfman is founder and chairman of the board of Thorn Apple Valley. Mala
Dorfman survived the Holocaust in a labor camp. After the war Henry and Mala met

he B'nai B'rith Women's Council of Metropolitan Detroit will hon-
or Howard and Steven Tapper at their anneal Special Gifts Lun-
cheon at Congregation B'nai Moshe Oct. 26 at noon.
Howard is a marketing graduate of Wayne State University and has
been involved in the jewelry industry for over 30 years. Howard is a past
president of Hillel Day School and of the JCC. He serves on the boards of the Fresh Air So-
ciety, JARC, Variety Club for Children and is a member of the UJA Young Leadership Cab-
inet. He and his family are affiliated with Congregation Beth Shalom where he also serves
on the synbagogue board. He was honored by the City of Hope, the Jewish Theological Sem-
inary and was the recipient of the Weitxman Award from the Federation.
Steven also has been involved in the jewelry business speicalizing in design and creative
artistry. He attended the Center for Creative Studies and was the first student in the pho-
tography department to be awarded a scholarship. He recently had a one-man show of his pho-
tographic designs at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association. He is a vice president of ADL,
is on the Jewish Ressettlement Services board and is a member of Morgenthau Lodge.
Funds raised at the luncheon and the BBW Youth and Services Appeal support the Res-
idential Treatment Center in Israel, where emotionally distrubed children are treated in a
completely drug-free therapeutic environment.
