The Southfield Public Library
will sponsor two, Tuesday after-
noon programs, Oct. 18 and 25,
at w p.m., in the Marcotte Room
of the library. The subjects of the
program are the operas from the
Michigan Opera Theatre's fall
schedule.
Oct. 18's lecture will be on Puc-
cini's Madame Butterfly and
Donizetti's Daughter of the Reg-
iment. Wallace Peace, opera en-
thusiast, will present an
informative and entertaining pro-
gram in his sixth opera lecture at
the library.
On Oct. 26, the opera movie
Daughter of the Regiment will be
seen (ItRlian with subtitles — two
hours.)
Both programs are free and
registration is not required. Tight
refreshments will be served.

The Purple Rose Theatre Com-
pany will launch the 1994-95 sea-
son of productions with Thy
Kingdom's Coming, a new come-
dy written by Jeff Daniels. Pre-
views will be held through Oct.
13, with the official opening night
Oct. 14.
Performances for the remain-
der of the eight-week engagement
will be Wednesdays through Sat-
urdays at 8 p.m. with Sunday
shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
through Nov. 27. All perfor-
mances are at the Purple Rose
Theatre Company's Garage The-
atre, 137 Park Street, Chelsea,
Michigan.

The biggest birthday party of the
year will be held during the 68th
Original Old World Market held
Oct. 14-16, at the Southfield Civic
Center Pavilion. Sponsored by
the City of Southfield Communi-
ty Relations Department and the
International Institute of Metro-
politan Detroit, Inc., the Market
will be a celebration of the Insti-
tute's 75th birthday.
The 68th Original Old World
Market will feature more than 40
world class import and craft
booths offering handcrafted gifts
for all ages in many different
price ranges. Nationality crafts
will be performed at craft demon-
stration booths and imports fro
more than 20 nationalities will
be available.
Market hours are Oct. 14: 10
a.m. - 8 p.m., Oct 15: 10 a.m. - 8
p.m.; and Oct. 16: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The Southfield Civic Center is lo-
cated at 26000 Evergreen Road,
north of 10 Mile in Southfield.

Hosts Poets

The Irish poet Mary O'Malley will
be joined by Thomas Lynch of
Milford for a reading of their
works at Borders Books & Music
in the Novi Town Center on Oct.
27 at 8 p.m.
There is no admission charge.

Macomb Center
Plans Shows

The world-famous Glenn Miller
Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m.
Oct. 21 at Macomb Center for the
Performing Arts.
The Red Star Red Army Cho-
rus and Dance Ensemble, a per-
formance troupe of 120 singers
and dancers, will bring their
show to the stage at 8 p.m. Oct.
22 at Macomb Center.

Quartet Plays
In Concert

The Cultural Arts Division of
Southfield Parks and Recreation
will present the Brad Felt Quar-
tet in the Concerts in the Garden
series Oct. 23. The quartet will
perform at 11 a.m. at the Atrium
of the Prudential Town Center,
2000 Town Center.
Tickets which include the con-
cert and a continental breakfast
at 10:30 a.m. must be purchased
in advance. Tickets for the con-
cert only, with coffee, can be pur-
chased at the door.
