JEWISH ENSEMBLE THEATRE

Ornate sculptured plaster
walls of Van Dyke Place are as
they were when built by William
Muir Finck ... Also there are the
original paintings, marble tables,
chandeliers, much of the furni-
ture and furnishings, etc.
The very elegant Van Dyke
Place is one of the last of the din-
ner-only houses ... It is open five
days a week, Tuesday through
Thursday, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.;
Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. to
10 p.m. ... L'Chaim "To Life" at
Van Dyke Place serves dinner
only Tuesday through Friday 6
p.m. to 9 p.m.
Van Dyke Place has been re-
done to its formal, turn-of-the-
century elegance ... with deep
rose antique velvet hangings,
hand-painted glass window, soft-
toned colors, satinwood hand-dec-
orated furniture and so much
more.
The dignified and graceful look
of Van Dyke Place is mirrored by
its exquisite dinner menu offer-
ings ... Dinner salad is served
with all main courses ... from

Executive chef
returns to his roots.

broiled North Atlantic salmon
over spinach linguine to roasted
fresh duckling to grilled sword-
fish with roasted corn salsa to
corn-crusted sea scallops over
vermicelli noodle cake to grilled
filet mignon with au gratin pota-
to and lobster ravioli to pan-
sauteed New York cut steak
Diane with zucchini latkes and
herb-smashed potatoes to roast-
ed rack of lamb with chick pea
crust to pan sauteed veal medal-
lions with risotto cake and wild
mushroom to baked chicken
breast with pecan bourbon sauce,
etc.
Cream of asparagus soup with
hazelnut creme fraiche, lobster
bisque with seafood quenelles,
chilled peach soup with fresh
basil and mint, garnished with
strawberry cream, all $4.50, plus
superbly-prepared appetizers
and wonderful desserts.
Executive Chef Keith Supian's
culinary excellence is one of qui-
et acclaim ... His kitchen mas-
tery of American haute cuisine
coupled with Jewish traditional
dining is superb.
Van Dyke Place has won and
is still winning accolades galore
but never has a fine dining
restaurant created such an ab-
solute ultimate for Jewish and
American selection ... Its value
is priceless.
IT'S LOBSTER Maine - ia
time again, the clever title of
Rochester Chop House's funfest
of crustacean dining delight ...
Bill Kruse and Vince Clark, boss-
folks at the Rochester restaurant

favorite on Main Street, have the
chomping specials running
through Oct. 31, with lobsters
cooked in just about every way
imaginable; from appetizers, sal-
ads, bisque, pan-roasted,
steamed, broiled, with pasta, in
bouillabaisse, stuffed with crab-
meat and other concoctions ...
The lobsters never had it so good
... Then again, neither did
Rochester Chop House customers
at lunch or dinner.
WHEN THE QVC TV shop-
ping channel went on cable air in
September 1986, Harriet Dun-
sky was among its first viewers
... And the program hostess,
Kathy Levine, ranks number one
on Harriet's TV hit parade.
Now, after being a faithful
watcher, the Bobette bossgal will
finally get to meet her star of
stars ... They'll have dinner to-
gether the night before QVC's ace
appears, Oct. 13, at the Troy
Marriott for Fashion Group In-
ternational-Detroit ... Cash bar
11 to noon, followed by luncheon
and Kathy speaking on "A Shop-
ping Revolution Every 24 Hours"
... For more info, call Maureen
Feder, 810-691-6612 ...Luncheon
tickets are $55.
SHE HAS ALWAYS gotten
votes of thanks for her fine vo-
calizing at local niteries, and is
now singing for ballot casting her
way.
As a state senator candidate,
Vicki Barnett lets her vocal
strains do the talking when en-
tertaining at Vicki's own fund-
raisers ... It's a different breed of
politiking, with no speeches as
she sort of gives a thank-you pay-
back to attenders.
The former Caucus Club of
years back song stylist was re-
cently at Ginopolis' On The Grille
with her original pianist and mu-
sic teacher, very talented and lik-
able Matt Michaels.
Vicki is better today than ever
... taking in a lot of stints for the
Gruber's Caucus Club, Ginopo-
lis' Ann Arbor Roadhouse and so
many places where she has
thrushed ... Vicki still loves
crowds and is used to the smoke,
chatter and clanging of dishes
while at the mike ... But every-
thing grows quiet when she be-
gins singing ... And her excellent
range oozes on the many
melodies Vicki renders ... She not
only still has it, but then some ...
Vicki is married to barrister
Mark Stekloff.
TONIGHT and tomorrow
night, Oct. 7 and 8, are the an-
nual Grape Festivals at Hun-
garian Village on Springwells off
1-75 freeway's Exit 45 ... Owner
Dave Ganus has the Grape Stom-
pers, Hungarian Village's
strolling Gypsy band, singers,
dancers, fortune teller and no
chance of other than a delightful
evening at its "Night In Hun-
gary," $15 per person mini-
mum.
