Closer Look at the Book of Es-
ther," taught by Ruth Bergman.

dents may register for individual
sessions or for the entire series.
There is a charge. Registration is
being taken both through
Midrasha and through Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek.
Session dates and topics for the
series are as follows: Oct. 10, 'He-
roes, Villains, and Assimilation";
Nov. 14, "Rabbinic Attitudes To-
wards Military Victories and De-
feats"; Dec. 19, "A Look at the
Women of Purim" . Jan. 9, "Sto-
ries of Jews Who Rose to Great-
ness"; Feb. 6, "Finding God in the
Book of Esther"; and March 13
(just before Purim itself), "Cele-
brating Purim: Then and Now."
Ruth Bergman is the executive
director of the Michigan Region
of the United Synagogue of Con-
servative Judaism. She has led a
number of adult Jewish study
groups in the metro Detroit area
and taught a series on Cain and
Abel at Midrasha this past sum-
mer.
