this term in newspapers
throughout the English speak-
ing world affirms its position as
the standard English reference
to the area in question. It is the
term 'Judea and Samaria,' there-
fore, which arises from explicit
political motives.

Melton Mini-School
Holds A Preview

Rabbi Cook is one of three Flo-
rence Melton Adult Mini-School
instructors this year. He will
teach a 15-session course titled
"The Purposes of Jewish Living,"
which will meet second semester.
The Florence Melton Adult
Mini-School will open the week
of Oct. 10 with a Monday morn-
ing class in West Bloomfield and
Thursday night class in Oak

Metro Detroit are invited to "A
Taste of Melton," a sample mini-
lesson taught by Rabbi Julian
Cook Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. hosted
by the Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning in the AJE
Community Library.

Designica will host a benefit for
the Kids Like Us charity — a
non-profit organization dedicat-
ed to the enrichment of children
with 111V and AIDS – Oct. 13.
Painter Richard Kozlow will
create a theme painting marking
this event which will be repro-
duced in limited edition posters
(numbered and signed) available
for purchase at the event.
The charity is from 6-9 p.m. at
6239 Orchard Lake Road in the
Sugar Tree Shopping Square.

a remarkable coincidence, con-
quered territory that traces pre-
cisely the lines of Judea and
Samaria? In truth, the Biblical,
scholarly and geographic region
of Judea and Samaria is largely
coextensive with, but not identi-
cal to, the West Bank.
The West Bank" remains the
only clear way to refer to that
specific territory and the use of
the term "Judea and Samaria" is
part of a political attempt to
maintain hegemony over the re-
gion.
