The Vocabulary of Jewish Living
The terminology of American Jewish life: Hebrew and Yiddish expressions and their meanings, as a key to
participation in all aspects of Jewish life and as an introduction to the other areas of study (15 lessons)

The Rhythms of Jewish Living
The traditional pattern of Jewish observances connected with the life cycle and the cycle of the year (30 lessons)

The Purposes of Jewish Living

The development of basic Jewish beliefs and ideas, as they unfold in the Bible and other sacred texts (15 lessons)

Second Year

The Dilemmas of Jewish Living

Contemporary issues of Jewish life, including assimilation, intermarriage, and anti-Semitism, seen not as
dilemmas unique to our own era, but rather as repeatedly encountered in various times and places across the
broad sweep of Jewish history (30 lessons)

The Ethics of Jewish Living

Issues in interpersonal relations, such as marriage, divorce, family life, parenting, health, business, and
communal life, as viewed through the lens of classical Jewish sources (30 lessons)

Classes will begin the week of October 10, 1994, with the following class times and locations:

Monday mornings
9:30 AM to 12:00 noon

Hadassah House, 5030 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield

Thursday evenings
7:00 to 9:30 PM

First semester/Temple Emanu-El, 14450 West 10 Mile Road, Oak Park
Second semester/Congregation Beth Shalom, 14601 West Lincoln, Oak Park

Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For members In good standing of any Melton Mini-
School Partner (listed in this brochure) tuition is $24S per year. For all others, tuition is $295 per year.

To keep tuition fees as affordable as possible, the Melton Mini-School is being underwritten by the Agency for
Jewish Education's Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish Learning. Additional financial support is being provided by
Midrasha's Melton Mini-School Partners.
