JET
JEWISH ENSEMBLE THEATRE
made for Joe's Bar & Grill ...
Same for the other framed pic-
tures and a number of prints dat-
ing back to the '20s that hang
around the restaurant replacing
the old Bijou look of Charles
Laughton, Clark Gable and oth-
er movie greats.
It is wide open now with a larg-
er dining room that seats 90 in a
completely non-smoking area ...
and a bar lounge sector with 70
more seats ... The art deco theme
was Joe Muer's idea and done in
a subtle way ... Through the
years, customers have always
been made to feel comfortable
downtown ... The same goes for
Joe's Bar & Grill.
And contrary to the dilemma
that Bijou might have had, there
is no parking problem at Joe's
Bar & Grill ... The space was cre-
Joe's Bar & Grill is a
iniaiature version.
ated with discovery of addition-
al land that had never been used.
Also, to allay any thoughts oth-
erwise, valet parking at Joe's Bar
& Grill is complimentary.
Reservations are not required
... but accepted for both lunch
and dinner ... open Monday
through Friday lunch, 11:30 a.m.
to 3 pan.; dinner Monday through
•Thursday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Fri-
day and Saturday, 5 p.m. to 11
p.m. ... It is closed Sundays but
available for private parties of
about 150 on Saturday noons
and all day Sunday.
Both lunch and dinner have
daily specials of fresh fish,
seafood, pasta of the day, Chick
-N- Joe's Combination Special,
etc.
The idea to create a "new look"
type of Joe Muer's while still re-
taining the quality, service and
friendly family atmosphere has
succeeded with Joe's Bar & Grill.
What never did get across was
that this was definitely another
Joe Muer restaurant ... It must
be reminded that when someone
like Joe Muer has such an excel-
lent reputation, nothing ... ab-
solutely nothing ... would be done
to even slightly tarnish the high
note he has achieved.
This is why Joe's Bar & Grill
will succeed ... The fact that it is
a Joe Muer restaurant from wall
to wall, top and bottom, inside
and outside, is the very confi-
dence people seek when dining
out ... Few names better exem-
plify this than Joe Muer.
Come to think of it, Joe Muer's
Bar & Grill instead of Joe's Bar
& Grill even sounds better.
EMILY'S Restaurant by Rick
Halberg, former bossman at
R.I.K's in Orchard Mall, is ex-
pected to have its public opening
the first of October ... Pre-open-
ing is set for Sept. 29, with a char-
itable event benefitting Civic
Concern of Northville, to help un-
derprivileged families.
It's named after his and wife
Karen's 12-year-old daughter,
Emily, with chef/owner Rick
preparing all the new restau-
rant's French-inspired Mediter-
ranean dishes.
Emily's takes over the former
Sheldon Roadhouse on N. Cen-
ter (Sheldon Road) in Northville,
with Mike Korn, maitre d', and
Donna Brown, sous chef.
DINNER and entertainment
downstairs in its Mushroom Cel-
lar is back at Golden Mushroom,
10 Mile and Southfield ... Show
is called "Applause, Applause"
and includes a four-course Gold-
en Mushroom dinner with an up-
beat cabaret-style review
featuring songs and skits from
Broadway hits ... $48 per person,
Oct. 1 through Nov. 19.
AFTER A LOT of years as an
Oak Park pioneer in that sector,
Hoa Kow of Oak Park on Nine
Mile, west of Coolidge, has been
sold ... Former bossman Gene
Woo, owner with dad, Dan Woo,
still retains Hoa Kow of West
Bloomfield in Crosswinds Mall,
Orchard Lake Road and Pine
Lake Road.
Time and effort divided be-
tween the two restaurants didn't
leave much room for concentrat-
ing on one, which Gene can now
do ... Hoa Kow of West Bloom-
field has gone into the very pop-
ular Chinese lunch buffet, with
future expectations for one at din-
ner, plus its regular updated
menu.
