You could lose things
like extra weight. High
blood pressure. And high
blood cholesterol levels.
The very things that con-
tribute to heart attack and
stroke.
All you have to do is in-
vest wisely at the super-
market.
Buy more in the fresh
produce, pasta, breads
and cereals sections. And
purchase fish, poultry and
lean meats instead of fatty
or processed meats.
Switch to low-fat dairy
products and margarine.
And check the nutritional
listings on food labels.
In short, be selective
about how you play this
market. Because no mat-
ter how much you lose,
you've got a lot to win.

The trade deficit in Israel more
than doubled last month to $920
million as exports plunged 17.3
percent and imports surged 14.6
percent, the Central Bureau of
Statistics reported.
Exports fell to $1.081 billion
from $1.307 billion in July, while
imports rose to $2.001 billion
from $1.746 billion.
The drop in exports reflected a

sharp fall in industrial exports,
which make up nearly three-
quarters of total exports. In con-
trast, large consumer imports
and production goods input im-
ports pushed imports up.
During the first eight months
of the year, the trade gap shot up
29 percent as imports rose 14 per-
cent compared to a moderate 6
percent increase in exports.

Plane Truth:
Deal Proposed

U.S. aircraft manufacturer Mc-
Donnell Douglas is seeking to sell
El Al passenger planes in a pack-
age deal with Israel Aircraft In-
dustries (IAI) worth $200 million.
Company chairman John Mc-
Donnell arrived in Israel this week
to discuss the proposed sale with
Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

McDonnell Douglas is the Pen-
tagon's largest contractor. Next
year, the company will begin de-
livering its latest airliner.
At the meeting with Mr. Ra-
bin, Mr. McDonnell proposed an
airliner purchase deal in ex-
change for a contract with IAI to
convert old airliners to freighters.
