In addition, he has taught at
the law schools of Wayne State
University and the University of
Michigan. Jerold H. Israel, a
University of Michigan law pro-
fessor, has taught a class in white
collar crime with Judge Borman
for the past 12 years.
"He volunteers his time and
drives up here to teach the class.
He comes up here in sleet and
snow and all I give him is a park-
ing space," he said. "He con-
tributes a great deal of practical
experience and is very generous
with his time and talent."
"He is a very good person, a
mentsh," Mr. Israel said. "At his
investiture everyone was saying
what a mentsh he is. The word
was made for him."
In the Jewish community, he
also is known for his contribu-
tions. He is a past president of the
Jewish Community Council and
a past chairman of the Allied
Jewish Campaign.
Although his involvement will
be limited due to the nature of

his new job, he will continue to
serve the community as chair-
man of the Jewish Federation's
Israel/Overseas Committee
which provides, among other
things, young adults with the op-
portunity to travel to and study
in Israel.

Paul D. Borman
is on the other side
of the bench.

For now, he refuses to think of
further appointments to either
the U.S. Court of Appeals or the
U.S. Supreme Court. Instead, he
plans to concentrate on the task
at hand. He heard his first mo-
tion last week and looks forward
to his first trial.
Also, he plans to purchase a
robe. "I guess I need one of my
own," he said.
