Exhibit Set
The first exhibition to survey
Frank Gehry's furniture designs
opens Sept. 9 at the Wetsman
Collection, a gallery of twentieth-
century decorative arts. More
than 10 pieces have been select-
ed, ranging from Mr. Gehry's ear-
liest designs of cardboard furni-
ture in 1969 to the recent
bentwood pieces made by Knoll
International. The exhibition, ti-
tled "Frank Gehry: Innovation In
Furniture Design 1969 to the
Present", will be on view through
Oct. 15.
The exhibition includes Mr.
Gehry's masterpieces from his
"Easy Edges", c. 1970, and "Ex-
perimental Edges", c. 1980, se-
ries. One of the highlights of the
show is the "Easy Edges: Wiggle"
side chair. The "Experimental
Edges" series, represented by the
"Little Beaver With Ottoman", is
another innovation in cardboard
' which reflects Mr. Gehry's ar-
chitectural and sculptural con-
cerns. The Wetsman Collection
is at 132 N. Woodward, Birm-

Children's Art
Is Neighborly
Opening Sept. 16, from 7 to 9
p.m. at Preston Burke Gallery in
Farmington Hills is "Getting to
Know Our Neighbor, Detroit".
This is a multimedia art exhibi-
tion by the children of Hillside El-
ementary School in Farmington
Hills.
The exhibition explores the dif-
ferences and similarities that the
children perceive between the
two communities. The exhibit
also marks the start of "Getting
to Know Our Neighbor, Detroit"
week, 2 week dedicated to cul
tural exchange between the chil-
dren of Hillside Elementary and
Fairbanks Elementary in Detroit.
This is the beginning of a cultur-
al arts exchange program to pro-
mote understanding and
cooperation between the two com-
munities.
