Hebrew Literacy
Classes Planned

Men and women are invited to
sign up for Hebrew literacy class-
es sponsored by the Adat Shalom
Synagogue Men's Club. The fall
program will begin Sept. 25 at a
continental breakfast and open-
ing session from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. Classes will continue
from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on 10 Monday
evenings from Oct. 3 through
January 19. Classes will not meet
on Oct. 31, nor on Nov. 28.
Classes are offered at three lev-
els. Beginners(those with no pre-
vious Hebrew knowledge) will
learn the letters and vowels and
some of the prayers of the Friday
night service. Intermediates will
focus on learning to lead the
Shabbat morning service prayers.
Advanced students will improve
their skills and learn to keep pace
with the Shabbat service and the
reading of the Torah.
Hebrew Literacy instructors
are Adat Shalom members who
are proficient in Hebrew and
have had past teaching experi-
ence. Synagogue clergy will also
participate. To cover materials,
the continental breakfast and all
classes, there is materials fee.
Those who cannot attend the
Sunday session should plan to
come to class Oct. 3
Classes will be offered again
this winter from Jan. 9 through
March 20 and will conclude with
a Kabbalat Shabbat service and
Oneg Shabbat honoring all the
participants on March 24. To re-

Adat Shalom
Sukkot Service

Adat Shalom Synagogue has
planned a Sukkot service fami-
ly dinner for Sept. 23. The service
will begin at 6 p.m., followed by
dinner at 6:45 p.m.
This year's expanded Sukkot
dinner will be co-sponsored by the
congregation's Jewish Experiences
for Families and Membership.
Committees. After dinner an ar-
ray of activities for children is on
the agenda.
There is a charge for the din-
ner. Adat Shalom new member
families will be complimentary
guests of the congregation.

Temple Israel
Blesses Children

Temple Israel will hold its annu-
al Blessing of the Children cere-
mony Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. Children
new to temple's schools will be
blessed by the rabbis.
