After obtaining a degree from Wayne State University, Ms. Gadon worked in a variety of settings including Family Ser- vice, Alcoholism Treatment, and Care of the Elderly. She di- rected and implemented a num- ber of creative clinical treat- ment programs at the Salvation Army Alcoholism Treatment Center in Grand Rapids, the National Council on Alcoholism, and the Jewish Home for Aged. For the past year and a half she was instrumental in organizing Gilda's Club, a psychosocial support program for cancer patients and their families in the tri-county area. Ms. Gadon served on the board of Oakland County Child Care Council for eight years. She was also a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the founding chair- person of the Geriatric Social Workers, the founding chair- person of the Geriatric Social Workers of Southeast Michigan. She was an active member of the Birmingham Temple and a member of the Waterford Rotary Club. "Bernice loved life and lived it to its fullest even after she was diagnosed with uterine cancer eight years ago," said her husband of 39 years, Joseph SOL BALABAN, 85, of Bloom- ington, hid., formerly of Detroit, died Aug. 29. The retired owner of Service Office Supply in Detroit, he was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom, B'nai B'rith and a member of Temple Beth El for more than 50 years.
