scholars-in-residence for the fall
semester. Their course offerings
will begin the week of Oct. 10.
Rabbi Cook will offer a total of
four courses, which will meet on
Monday and Wednesday nights
(two classes each night). Each
course will meet for eight text

titled "Challenge and Response:
An Introduction to Jewish Law."
An introductory lecture for this
series, which will take place on
Oct. 11, is a free preview for the
10-session series. On Thursday
mornings, he will teach a text
study seminar titled "Who is
Wise? Insights from Pirkei Avot."
Study materials in the law class
are entirely in English, and a lec-
ture format is used.
Some reading knowledge of
Hebrew might be helpful for Rab-
bi Glogower's other classes, which
are more oriented to text study,
but is not required.
All Midrasha courses are con-
tingent on minimum enrollment,
and there are tuition fees. Schol-
arship assistance is available.

Jewish Genealogical Society of
Michigan 1994-95 season.
JGS President David Sloan will
report on the International Jew-
ish Genealogy Conference he at-
tended in Jerusalem. He also will
tell how to conduct genealogical
research in Israel by mail.
The meeting will begin at 7:30
p.m. Sept. 22 in the Temple Beth
El library. Beginners in genealo-
gy are invited to attend the spe-
cial help session starting at 7 p.m.
JGS of Michigan offers lec-
tures, workshops, field trips and
a newsletter for anyone interest-
ed in tracing his Jewish roots. Ad-
