OLDSMOBILE FROM POTTERY TO HANDBLOWN GLASS... PAINTINGS TO JEWELRY AND HOME ACCESSORIES... Pewabic Pottery Plans Exhibit Pewabic Pottery presents work by three female artists, Beth Low, Carrie Anne Parks and Leah Hardy through Nov. 2. A solo exhibition of work by Wes- ley Anderegg will run concur- rently. Beth Lo will display wall pieces incorporating oriental brushwork and clay on gray sheetrock board. A strength of character is demon- strated in her compositions through assertive brushstrokes surrounding the attached porce- lain objects. Carrie Anne Parks continues the narrative theme and person- al context. She explores her in- terest in historical relief and figurative sculpture and admi- ration for the technical mastery and symbolism imbued by such realistic forms in her underglazed earthenware tile wall pieces. Leah Hardy, assistant profes- sor of ceramics at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, also celebrated her expe- riences through personal "icons." The work abstracts the personal narrative through a contrast of biomorphic and architectural forms. Wesley Anderegg's figurative cups/saucers and teapots are pushed and pulled from terra- cotta. A spontaneous and mottled surface enlivens the oddly pro- portioned, gestural figures. The Pottery is located at 10125 East Jefferson, three miles east of downtown Detroit across from Waterworks Park. Visitor hours are Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For information call (313) 822-0954.
