Council Plans
Holiday Service

The Religious Committee of the
Grosse Pointe Jewish Council will
sponsor Reform high holiday ser-
vices for the Jewish community
on Detroit's east side.
Yom Kippur observance will
begin Sept. 14 with Kol Nidre at
8 p.m. and will resume at 9:30
a.m. Sept. 13 with a children's
service from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Yom
Kippur will conclude with a
memorial service at 3 p.m. Rab-
bi Joseph Gutmann will conduct
the services. For more details, lo-

munity Center September 10, at
8:15 p.m. Annie will be present-

Bel Canto
Auditions

The Bel Canto Choral Society is
preparing for its 1994-95 season
and invites women who read mu-
sic and enjoy singing to join the
group. Founded 37 years ago, the
organization is led by Eugene
Branstrom, and accompanied by
Rochelle Barr. Members are pro-
fessional and semi-professional
women who enjoy rehearsing and
performing a wide variety of mu-
sic. Rehearsals take place on
Monday evenings during the Sep-
tember to June season, in South-
field. Performances are scheduled
as contracted. Bel Canto is a non-
profit organization co-sponsored
by the City of Southfield.
Auditions will be scheduled by
appointment for the coining 1994-
95 season. For information, con-

Dubin Teaches
Playwriting

Michigan playwright Kitty Du-
bin will assume the role of in-
structor at Macomb Community
College this fall to teach a special
directed-study course on play-
writing - structure, character de-
velopment and dialogue - through
readings, class discussions, and
writing assignments.
Ms. Dubin, whose plays have
been produced at the Purple Rose
Theatre and the Jewish Ensem-
ble Theatre in Michigan and at
the Live Oak Theatre in Austin,
Texas, has twice been awarded
individual artist grants.
