VOICE MAIL can be a pain, ac-
cording to a recent survey of 150
executives from the nation's 1,000
largest companies. The executives
said 40 percent of the voice mail
systems they reach are annoying
or difficult to use.
"Voice mail should not be used
to replace personal communica-
tion," said Robert Half, founder
of Accountemps, which commis-
sioned an independent research
firm to do the survey.
"Wherever possible, callers
should ultimately be able to talk
to an actual person, especially if
it's a service-related business,"
Mr. Half said.
FOUR metropolitan Detroit com-

America's Small Businesses, 1994.
The four are Business Televi-
sion Video Systems, Inc. of Walled
Lake, Robotron Corp. of South-
field, Saturn Electronics & Engi-
neering Inc. in Rochester Hills
and United Lighting Standards
Inc. of Warren.
The book is published each
year as part of the Blue Chip En-
terprise Initiative, an award and
information-sharing program
sponsored by Connecticut Mut-
ual Life Insurance Company and
