halom. My name is Ruth
Littanann, Health Beat ed-
itor and staff writer. I'm a
1990 University of Michigan
graduate who studied philoso-
phy until I realized that con-
templation —however profound
--- doesn't pay rent.
I began extracurricular work
on campus publications and lat-
er landed my first post-college
job as an assistant editor for a
publishing company downtown.
I have two wonderful parents in
Bloomfield and two brothers liv-
ing out-of-state.
Since graduating U-M, I've
lived in Los Angeles, Washing-
ton D.C. and most recently Man-
assas, Va., home of the Bobbitts.
(No, I never ran into John or
Lorena. Truly, a disappoint-
ment.)
I've been with The Jewish
News for 18 months, and I look
forward to boarding an El Al jet
with many of you traveling on
Miracle Mission II next spring.
It'll be my first-ever trip to Is-
rael. Watch for me. I'll be the one

to the editor enables us to live
up to the words of the late New
York Times publisher, Arthur
Hays Sulzberger. In 1956, upon
his acceptance of an award from
Temple Israel in Boston, Mr.
Sulzberger said: 'The vital mea-
sure of a newspaper is not its
size but its spirit — that is, its
responsibility to report the news
fully, accurately and fairly."

bring together Jewish adults
with developmental disabili-
ties for a day of athletic events
and an evening of dinner and
dancing at the Maple/Drake
Jewish Community Center.
