Pewabic Pottery
Exhibit Set
Since 1903, Pewabic Pottery has
operated as a ceramics learning
center, museum and gallery.
Founded in conjunction with the
Arts and Crafts Movement, Pe-
wabic remains the oldest art pot-
tery facility still in continuous
operation in the United States.
The Southfield Public Library
is enthusiastic about hosting "Pe-
wabic: The History and Present
Day Pottery, Tiles and Architec-
ture" during the month of No-
vember. The exhibit will be
divided between each of the li-
brary's three levels. Displays will
include actual examples of his-
toric and contemporary works.
Special holiday related tiles, as
well as many photographs, will
be included in the exhibit.
For reservations or informa-
tion, call the Fiction Desk, (810)
948-0470.

Women Artists
Exhibit Planned
The Janice Charach Epstein Mu-
seum/Gallery will present three
Jewish women artists in "In-
credibly Mixed Media" from Sept.
29-Oct. 27. Each of these inde-
pendent artists has been influ-
enced by her Jewish background
and has chosen a different direc-
tion of expression.
Reija Remes is a Finnish
painter who combines symbols of
her Jewish heritage with the col-
or and essence of her Scandina-
vian spirit.
Lidia Sacharny, an artist orig-
inally from Brazil, creates in-
stallations in which the viewer
participates physically as well as
mentally and becomes a part of
the work of art as a result of this
interaction.
Carol Hamoy, currently living
and working in New York City,
creates constructions derived
from bits and pieces of every day,
as well as Jewish life.
A meet-the-artists reception
will be held Sept. 29 in the gallery
from 6-8:30 p.m. The public is
welcome free of charge.
On Sept. 30 at 10 a.m., Carol
Hamoy will give a gallery pre-
sentation titled "A Woman's
Voice". The ticket cost includes
brunch. Please call the gallery,
661-7641, for reservations and
tickets. Carol Hamoy's presenta-
tion is sponsored by the Midrasha
Center for Adult Jewish Learn-
ing, a division of the Agency for
Jewish Education.
The Janice Charach Epstein
Museum/Gallery is located in the
Maple/Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center. Gallery hours are
