Liebman visiting scholar in the Judaic Studies De- partment at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, will be the guest lecturer for the Max Hart 1994 Lecture Series at Temple Beth El, Flint. Dr. Liebman is the director of the Argov Center for the Study of Israel and the Jew- ish People and professor of polit- ical studies at Bar-Ilan University. He has chosen for his topic for the lecture series "The Transfor- mation of Judaism in Israel and the United States." Dr. Liebman will explore the power of religion and how it responds to the cul- ture in which it is located. Lectures are 7:30 p.m., Sept. 25, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9 at the tem- ple, 501 South Ballenger. The first lecture will be preceded by a deli supper at 6:30 p.m. Ad- vance reservation for the deli sup- per must be made to the temple office, 232-3138 by Sept. 21. Shir Shalom Dedication Rejoicing will be the order of the day Aug. 28 as members of Tem- ple Shir Shalom gather to break ground for their new temple building. The ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the site of the new Temple Shir Shalom at Or- chard lake and Walnut Lake Roads. The new Temple Shir Shalom was designed by the architectur- al firm of Neumann and Smith and will be constructed by A.J. Etkin Construction Company. Once completed, there will be classrooms surrounding the 350 seat sanctuary and a social hall that can seat 400 for a sit-down meal and expand to just under a 2000 seat capacity for Holy Days. The dedication ceremony will be followed with music and re- freshments.
