An Old

Tradition

ince 1938, generations have trusted Empire
Kosher for the very best poultry for holidays
and for every day. Because of the rigorous adherence to strict dietary
laws which require extra steps, extra care and stringent standards of
cleanliness and purity, Empire's all natural poultry is better tasting
and better for you, every time.

EILEEN GOLTZ SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS

ontrary to popular belief,
the egg is not the most per-
fect food. This prestigious
spot has been taken over
by M&Ms now that they're
kosher. Before you start writing
and calling to tell me I'm mis-
taken, let me remind you of one
important irrefutable fact. An
M&M "melts in your mouth and
not in your hand." Top that with
an egg if you can.
There is a group of us lobbying
the FDA, secretly of course, to
have candy declared its own food
group. Now if I could just get
them to put a check-off box on our
tax returns for everyone to show
that they support us, we'd have
a shot at having our dream be-
come a reality.
My first meaningful candy ex-
perience was at the age of about
2 %. There I was sitting in that
shopping cart, the queen of all I
surveyed. I discovered the best
part of my kingdom (the part I
could get my hands on) was sit-
ting right in front of my face in
the check out lane. With unre-
stricted access to all this loot, I
was in heaven. While the royal
mommy was paying the bill, I
was unwrapping three Hershey
bars and stuffing them into my
mouth. Everyone except my mom
thought I was adorable. The love
affair of the century was born. I
was hooked. It's a shame that all
my vices can't be this innocuous.
I'm an adult now, or at least
something that approximates an
adult; and Fm better able to con-
trol myself when it comes to eat-
ing first and thinking later. I still
love candy, so throughout the
years its been my goal and plea-
sure to collect and create as many
"candy bar" desserts as possible.
Even my failures are spectacu-
lar.
So, I've decided to share some
of my favorite recipes. You should
have "Mounds" of fun. All the
recipes are "Good" and you'll have
"Plenty" for everyone.

slightly. Using a mixer, beat eggs,
sugar and vanilla together until
slightly thickened, about 1 min.
Beat in chocolate mixture. Add
the flour, baking powder, and
salt. Mix until combined. Stir in
1 c. chopped Heath bar. Pour bat-
ter into prepared pan and sprin-
kle remining Heath bar on the
top. For more fudge consistency
cook 27 to 30 min. For a more
cake like consistency bake 30 to
35 min. Cool and cut. These are
fantastic with ice cream.
