In the 13-14 400 freestyle re- lay, the team of MacDonald, Jessica Canosa, Farber and Axner won the gold (3:56). Farber, Canosa, MacDonald and ' Meredith Stegman combined to earn the silver in the 13-14 400 medley relay (4:39.35). Stacey Axner captured the gold in the 15-16 100 backstroke (1:04.86) and bronzes in the 50 freestyle (26.46), 100 freestyle (57.81) and 100 butterfly (1:03.50). The team of Melissa Axner, Farber, Julia Music and Stacey •Axner earned the gold in the 15- 16 400 freestyle relay (3:59.40). In the 15-16 400 medley relay, the quartet of Melissa Axner, Farber, Stacey Axner and Music won the silver (4:31.52). GIRLS TENNIS In first-round matches in the 15-16 age group singles compe- tition, Amanda Fanaroff of Cleveland beat Erika Stone 8-3 and Elissa Winkelstein of Atlantic County (N.J.) topped Elite Ben- Ozer 8-4. In 13-14 singles, Laura Weinberg of Great Britain beat Ilyssa Kahn 8-2 in the first round and Sarah Rothenberg of Youngstown beat Rachel Wright in the second round. GIRLS TRACK In 13-14 age division action, the 1600-meter relay team of Leah Weiss, Alexandra Graham, Shelley Reinstein and Jenny Adelson won the gold medal. Earning silvers were the 400 re- lay team of Tracie Goldman, Weiss, Reinstein and Adelson and Adelson in the 400. Graham won the bronze in the 3200. The 15-16 1600 relay quartet of Jodi Berris, Becky Abel, Marci Lynn and Rachel Weiss won the silver, as did Abel in the 3200. Abel also took home the bronze in the shot put. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL A 7-5 record in round-robin play gave Detroit the No. 3 seed in the seven-team field for the medal round and it went on to earn the bronze medal. On the first day of round-robin competition, Detroit swept Cleveland White 15-0, 15-0 and Chicago 15-6, 16-14, but was beaten by San Francisco 15-6, 15- 10. On the second day, Detroit fell to Los Angeles 15-11, 15-7 but defeated Ottawa 15-11, 15-6. On the third day, Detroit beat Cleveland Blue 15-8 to clinch the third seed, then lost 16-14 in a game that didn't affect the round- . robin standings. Against Cleveland White, Niki Berlin had eight aces and Alison Lyngaas was solid on pass re- turns.
