The Detroit
Chapter Amer-
ican Technion
Society will
hold its 46th
Annual Party 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at
the Detroit Institute of Arts. The
evening will be chaired by Joel
Tauber and Michael Egren.
Mr. Tauber is president of the
United Jewish Appeal. He is on
the executive committee of the
Council of Jewish Federations
and is a board member of United
Israel Appeal and the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee. Mr. Tauber
has been campaign chairman
and president of the Jewish Fed-
eration of Metropolitan Detroit.
Michael Egren is a member of
the board of directors and has been
an officer of the Detroit ATS Chap-
ter. He has been an officer of the
Young Leadership Cabinet of the
UJA. Mr. Egren is a board mem-
ber of the American Arabic and
Jewish Friends and of the North
American Section of the Interna-
tional Institute for Secular Hu-
manistic Judaism, second vice
president of the Birmingham
Temple, former board member of
the American ORT Federation and
immediate past chapter chair of the
Michigan-East Chapter of the
Young President's Organization.

Art Classes
At Maple/Drake

The Jewish Community Center

has expanded its art offerings to
include a creative ceramic class
for adults, Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m.
and a youth variety art class for
students 6 to 8 years old, Tues-
days at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays art
classes begin Oct. 4 at Maple/
Drake.
Instruction for both of these
classes is highly individualized;
no prior knowledge necessary.
These, as well as other art class-
es, will be taught by JCC veter-
an ceramicist Lisa Singleton. Ms.
Singleton has experience teach-
ing pottery, ceramics, drawing,
jewelry, art history, theater arts
and painting.

Four adult Jewish study events
are being offered by the Midrasha
Center for Adult Jewish Learn-
ing to help interested Jewish
adults prepare for the High Hol-
idays.All of the events are free
and begin at 8 p.m. on the dates
listed.
On Aug. 22, Rabbi Eliezer Co-
hen of Young Israel of Oak Woods
will lead a text study session on
"Atonement in Jewish Tradition."
On Aug. 23,Dr. Joe Lewis will
present "A Map for High Holy
Day services." On Aug. 24, Rab-
bi Leonardo Bitran of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel
Center will introduce adult learn-
ers to "Prayers and Melodies for
the Fiestas Altas: An Overview
of the Sephardic Mahzor." On
Aug. 25, Rabbi Elimelech Silber-
berg of Bais Chabad Torah Cen-
ter of West Bloomfield will offer
(Mystical Reflections on the High
Holidays." -
Except for Rabbi Cohen's ses-
sion on Aug. 22, all of the above
events will be on a basic intro lev-
el appropriate for beginners as
well as those with some adult
Jewish study experience.

Young Adults
Hold Barnite

Young adults age 21-35 are in-
vited to YAD Barnite at the Old
Woodward Grill in Birmingham
8:30 p.m. Aug. 30.
The event is sponsored by the
Jewish Federation's Young Adult
Division Outreach and Education
Committee. The evening will be
highlighted by a raffle for enter-
tainment gifts.
