Historic Sites
Tours Set

A visit to the historic Beth Olem
Cemetery in Hamtramck and the
Lafayette Cemetery in Detroit
will take place Aug. 28 at 10 a.m.
from Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. This visit is part of a trio
of heritage tours sponsored this
fall by the Jewish Historical So-
ciety of Michigan in cooperation
with the Agency for Jewish Edu-
cation. Reserve space in the car-
pools as soon as possible by
calling Gladys Sampson, 357-
5544. There is no charge.
A tour of the Historic Boston-
Edison District will include be-
ing privately hosted in five homes
formerly owned by prominent
members of the Jewish Commu-
nity. This tour will take place
Sept. 25 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
departing from the Agency for
Jewish Education.
The bus tour of Historic Jew-
ish Detroit, developed by Dr.
Aaron Lupovitch, will take place
on the corrected date of Oct. 30
from 12:30 to 5 p.m. There is a
fee. For information call The
Jewish Historical Society, 661-

Humanistic
Institute

Students enrolled in the Inter-
national Institute for Secular Hu-
manistic Judaism Leadership
Program will focus on the ethics
and methodology of philosophic
guidance in their next seminar
Aug. 26-28, at the Birmingham
Temple. The seminar will help
prepare future clergy to counsel
congregants in times of joy,
stress, and sorrow. Faculty for
the seminar will be Rabbi Sher-
win Wine, founder of Humanis-
tic Judaism and rabbi of the
Birmingham Temple, and Dr.
Sidney Grossberg.
Dr. Grossberg is president of
the Michigan Society for Clinical
Social Work and past president
of the National Federation of So-
cieties for Clinical Social Work.
The International Institute is
the educational arm of the Inter-
national Federation of Secular
Humanistic Jews, an association
of national organizations. It
serves as the intellectual and
teaching center for the Secular
Humanistic Jewish Movement.
Upon completion of the pro-
gram, graduates may apply for
certification in one of three cat-
egories of professional leadership:
