Ms. Shinar remembers, for in-
stance, the bar mitzvah in which
a motorcycle was driven right
into the main ballroom and the
weekend that a bar mitzvah fam-
ily took over the entire hotel —
and virtually redecorated it just
for the weekend.
Passover is always a special
challenge. That's when the de-
mand is so great that the over-
flow guests are accommodated
next door at the Holiday Inn,
which, like the International, is
owned by Ms. Shinar's father,
George Greenman.
In fact, this is a true family-
owned hotel: Ms. Shinar, daugh-
ter of the owner, is both general
manager and vice president. Her
Israeli-born husband, Moshe Shi-
nar, is director of food and bev-
erages.

pervising the daily menu but also

like Passover.
This past Passover, the hotel
served 500 people every day dur-
ing the span of the holiday. "We
did three meals a day for 10 days,
plus special events," says Ms.
Shiner, who estimates that the
hotel served a whopping total of
22,000 meals in all. "It was in-
credible — a true eating fest!"
But even when there is no
Jewish holiday or special event,
the pace can be hectic, especially
in the summer peak season.
That's when the hotel is often sold
out. The guests include individ-
uals, families, or quite often
groups — quite often quite large,
like the group of 170 Jewish vis-
itors from Baltimore one recent
weekend.
Of course, since this is Atlantic
City, some of the guests are sea-
soned gamblers. About 40 high
rollers dine each week at the ho-
tel, courtesy of their favorite casi-
no. Because they're big spenders
at the casinos, they're sent in
style in the limousines which
park outside and wait until they
finish their roast chicken or prime
ribs of beef dinners. "Every so of-
ten we have three or four limou-
sines outside waiting to drive the
high rollers back to the casinos,"
says Ms. Shinar.
From high rollers to Hadassah
groups, the International Hotel
lives up to its name as a cos-
mopolitan hotel attracting a di-
verse groups of guests. "The
diversity of the people is what
makes the work especially re-
warding." ❑
