WERE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE

eers rose up along Jefferson
Avenue last weekend when
President Bill Clinton's mo-
torcade cruised into town
toward the Westin Hotel where
a Democratic Party fund-raiser
was about to begin.
The protestors, numbering
about 200, denounced the presi-
dent's plan of health-care reform
by carrying signs for the motor-
cade to see as it passed.
"Government Health Care Is
Gesundheit German Style," one
sign read. "Bill Is Our Big Both-
er," read another.
Still another: "Congress, Heal
Thyself."
Dr. Paul Ehrmann, founder of
the grass-roots Community
Coalition for Concerned
Providers and Patients (C3P2),
organized the protest in con-
junction with a national group,
Speak Out America.
"We want to let people know
that we're for health-care reform,
but not for health-care reform
when the government takes
over," Dr. Ehrmann said.
The Royal Oak physician and
members of his organization pre-

j

diet that the president's plan —
and others like it — will result in
health-care rationing, poor ser-
vice and an overall deterioration
of the American system of med-
icine.
As a solution to the health-care
malaise, C3P2 members advo-
cate tax, insurance and mal-
practice reforms, as well as

individual responsibility and self-
determination. They have
worked for months with state
Rep. John Jamian (R-Bloomfield
Hills) to pass a free-market,
health-care initiative in Lansing.
Across the street from the pro-
testors, another 40 people staged
a rally near the entrance of the
Westin Hotel. The group repre-
sented the Service Employees In-
ternat'orial Union, which
supports the presidentl plan. 0
