ie trials and tribulations
of O.J. Simpson are sure
to dominate the headlines
for the next few months, and so
will the issue of domestic
violence. Against that
background, B'nai
B'rith Women (BBW)
has designated Oct. 1 as -
the kickoff of its fifth an-
nual National Domestic
Violence Awareness
Week.
"We hope that rabbis
will devote their sermons
on that Sabbath to how
violence affects the fam-
ily," said BBW Presi-
dent Susan Bruck.
"Many people believe
there is shalom bayit —
peace in the home — in
all Jewish families.
BBW knows that, tragically,
Jewish families are as prone to
domestic violence as any other
families."
BBW has developed a domes-

and hotel located in a refurbished
building on a quiet street not far
from the community's offices and

According to a Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency (JTA) report,
Chez David has eight plain but

comfortable double rooms, each
with a telephone and satellite
television, and one suite with
cooking facilities. A small, mod-
ern mikvah soon will be operat-
ing in the basement.
Hotel staff handle travel, sight-
seeing and other arrangements
for guests. One of the tourist at-
tractions soon to be available is
the underground tomb of
Chatam Sofer, an early 19th-cen-
tury rabbi and scholar who is a
towering figure of Orthodox Jew-
ish life in Central Europe.

Computer Is
A Real Load

E

l Al Israel Airlines says it
has begun using a new
computer software pro-
gram which enables workers to
load 100 tons of cargo onto a
jumbo 747 aircraft in just 20
minutes, a savings of more than
one hour.
Last-minute changes in car-
go are handled quickly by the
program. Once the loading is
complete, telegrams with all the
necessary information for off-
loading the freight are sent to
the cargo's destination.
