The evening,planned by the Synagogue's Jewish Family Liv- ing Institute, will offer a special gift from the synagogue for all boys and girls attending the ser- vice. Cantor Howard Glantz has personalized keppot with the youngsters' Hebrew and English first names for those synagogue children whose parents have pre- ordered them. The Outdoor Kabbalat Shab- bat Family Service will begin at 7:45 p.m. The synagogue's regu- lar 6 p.m. service will take place in addition to the outdoor service. New Member Program Set Adat Shalom Synagogue has cre- ated a special program to ac- quaint new members of the congregation with the Shabbat morning service. Coordinated by the syna- gogue's Jewish Family Living In- stitute, the project will pair regular Shabbat shul-goers with new members, inviting them to Shabbat morning services, sitting with them, and introducing them to other congregants. An orientation meeting for those interested in participating in the new Shabbat Chaverim Program will be held Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. a the synagogue. Beth El Family Picnic Food, fun and an array of activi- ties for children of all ages will be featured at the Temple Beth El Family Picnic Aug. 14 from noon to 4 p.m. on temple grounds. The event is open to all temple mem- bers, their families and friends as well as to prospective temple members. Hot dogs, soda and treats will be available for everyone and the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Sportsmobile will be on hand from 1-3 p.m. to super- vise games and activities. To join in, call the rabbi's study at the temple, 851-1100. New Rabbi At Beth Achim Herbert Yoskowitz Congregation Beth Achim has appointed Rabbi Herbert A. Yoskowitz as its new spiritual leader. Rabbi Yoskowitz comes to Con- gregation Beth Achim from Con- gregation Beth Shalom in Wilmington, Del. He has been very active at Camp Ramah and has served as an assistant pro- fessor of religion at Hemline Uni- versity in St. Paul, Minn. Rabbi Yoskowitz has created many programs dealing with adult and youth education; they include a Jewish bioethics study group for physicians and their spouses, an individualized par- ent education program for par- ents of b'nai mitzvah, a Shabbat program and a Torah reading club for teens. Rabbi Yoskowitz, his wife Rachel and his three chil- dren will join Congregation Beth Achim on Aug. 13. New Members At Beth Achim Congregation Beth Achim will welcome new members Aug. 27 at New Member Shabbat at the synagogue. During the services, which will begin at 8:45 a.m., Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz will present the new members with a Machzor for the High Holidays. Following services there will be a special kiddush, during which the congregation will have the opportunity to meet and greet the synagogue's newest mem- bers.
