Midrasha Center Plans Mini-School ,) The Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish Learning has announced that local congregations and or- ganizations have accepted Midrasha's invitation to become partners in the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, a two-year program of experiential adult Jewish learning developed by He- brew University, which will open its doors in Metro Detroit this Oc- tober. Midrasha is serving as coordi- nating agency for the Mini- School. Each Melton partner has made a financial commitment to the Mini-School and will be par- ticipating with Midrasha in a community-wide effort to publi- cize the Mini-School and recruit students for the opening term this fall. Midrash's Melton Adult Mini- School partners presently in- clude: Adat Shalom Synagogue, Congregation B'nai Moshe, Con- gregation Shaarey Zedek, Con- gregation Shir Tikvah, Congregation. T'chiyah, Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah, Hillel Day School, National Coun- cil of Jewish Women Greater De- troit Section, Temple Beth El, Temple Emanu-El, Temple Kol Ami, Temple Israel, Temple Shir Shalom, and The Jewish News. Current plans call for a Mon- day morning class at Hadassah House in West Bloomfield and a Thursday evening class in Oak Park co-hosted by Temple Emanu-El (first semester) and Congregation Beth Shalom (sec- ond semester). The maximum class size will be 25 (minimum target enrollment per class will bel8). If enrollment exceeds the two planned classes, a third class will be added, probably at the Midrasha, which is located in the Agency for Jewish Education building in Southfield. During August and September there will be a number of Taste of Melton preview sessions, an opportunity for prospective stu- dents to experience the Melton curriculum first-hand and ask questions about the program. The first "Taste of Melton" event will be held at Midrasha, 21550 West 12 Mile Road, August 15 at 8 p.m. It will be an introducto- ry overview of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
