Twelve Mile Road between Evergreen and Lahser) In Case of Rain Concert Cancelled "Film Under the Stars" organizers Allen Wolff, Jon Goldstein and Bill Flagg. ill Flagg, Jon Goldstein and Allen Wolff have been spending too much time to- gether. But they aren't complaining. These University of Michigan graduates work in a small office with one phone and two chairs. They are temporarily living in a one-bedroom apartment and they share the responsibility of coor- dinating "Film Under the Stars," a free, 10-day outdoor film festi- val that begins tonight on the lawn at the Prudential Town Center in Southfield. Films as diverse as Casablan- ca (tonight's movie), When Har- ry Met Sally and 2001: A Space Odyssey will be shown on a 20- by-15-foot outdoor screen. The event is a kick-off to promote plans for the City Centre — a soon-to-be-built downtown area with outdoor cafes and shops. "We were looking for an outlet to promote the City Centre and their event was the perfect way to introduce it," said Nina Green- stein, the City Centre advisory board consultant. Mr. Flagg, 23, and Mr. Gold- stein, 24, brought the concept of an outdoor film festival to South- field after seeing the success of a similar event in Ann Arbor. "When we went to the one in Ann Arbor, the response to it was extremely positive," Mr. Flagg said. "It's a great community event everyone really enjoyed. It was nice to see how favorable the community's response was." Each night's movie starts at sunset and is preceded by live en- tertainment, beginning at 6 p.m. A short film will be shown before each feature movie. In preparation for the film fes- tival, Mr. Flagg, a graduate of North Farmington High School, along with Mr. Goldstein and Mr. Wolff, both Maryland natives, have spent the past several months planning logistics for the festival, including finding corpo- rate sponsors and building the outdoor screen. Outside of working on "Film Under the Stars," these U-M graduates have varied back- grounds. Mr. Goldstein, who graduated with a degree in communications and film, spent nine months in California working for a produc- tion company. Before returning to Michigan, he lived in Wash- ington, D.C., where he owns a company that does printing for the University of Maryland. Mr. Flagg took a leave of ab- sence from his bank job in Chica- go to work on the film festival. He established a poster-calendar company in college, which is now managed by Mr. Wolff. "I passed up a trip to Europe to come here," said Mr. Wolff, 22, who majored in organizational studies and pre-medicine. ❑
