Germany Founds
Beit Din

Bonn (JTA) — For the first time
since the end of World War II,
German Jewry has established a
rabbinical court to issue halachic
rulings.
The new court, or Beit Din,
comprised of three rabbis, was set
up in Munich to deal with con-
versions, divorces and other is-
sues of general concern to the
religious community.
Prior to the establishment of
the court, individual rabbis is-
sued rulings that were not always
recognized by rabbinical author-
ities elsewhere, particularly in Is-
rael.
In some cases, the local Jew-
ish community sought rulings
from rabbis in other countries,
sometimes from as far away as
Israel or the United States.
The Beit Din is located at the
office of Rabbi Yitzhak Ehren-
berg, rabbi of the Jewish com-
munity of Munich.

Teen-Agers
Fight Hatred

Vienna (JTA) — In an effort to
break down the walls of hatred
and mistrust separating them,
40 Israeli, Arab and Austrian
teen-agers gathered here recent-
ly for a one-week series of dis-
cussions and outings.
The youths, who practically
lived together, attended seminars
and discussion groups focused on
the Middle East peace process.
They spent part of the week
trekking through the Tirolean
Alps.
While some of the young peo-
ple used the seminars to repeat
the views of their respective gov-
ernments, others sought to build
personal relationships.
As one Israeli girl summed up
the week, "Despite all the prob-
lems, we do have a lot of things
in common. We mostly share sim-
ilar wishes and worries — and
we are all wearing the same
jeans."

Where We've Got The Sizead

United Capital
Not Accepted

Jordanian Information Minister
Jawad Anani, talking to reporters
in Amman, said Jordan did not
accept Israel's claim to Jerusalem
as its united capital.
"But we see the Israeli will-
ingness to discuss with us the fu-
ture of the Islamic holy places
there as a first step."
Mr. Peres acknowledged Jor-
dan's special religious rule over
Jerusalem's holy shrines.
